Primary Election 2023: Who's On The Ballot In NJ's 8th Legislative District

SOUTH JERSEY β€” The 2023 Primary election is quickly approaching for New Jersey voters, and those in the 8th legislative district will get a first look at the candidates hoping to take the seat of retiring Republican senator Jean Stanfield.

Primary Day is June 6 for state legislature candidates, as well as for local races, county commissioner seats, and school board members. The winners of the 2023 primary election will gain their party’s nomination for the general election on Nov. 7.

New Jersey's 8th legislative district includes municipalities in Burlington and Atlantic counties. The recent redistricting also added McGuire Air Force Base.

The primary race in this district is fairly straightforward, as it is uncontested – only one candidate is listed for each party, in each position. Other New Jersey voters have to choose between candidates to see who will be on the ticket Nov. 7, but that is not the case here. Therefore, those local participants who chose Democratic or Republican ballots will see the same names for these spots on June 6 as they will on Election Day in November.

  • Burlington County: Chesterfield, Eastampton, Evesham, Mansfield, Medford, Mount Holly, Pemberton, Southampton.
  • Atlantic County: Bass River Township, Egg Harbor City, Hammonton.

New Jersey has a closed primary, which means only Republicans can vote in the Republican primary, and only Democrats can vote in the Democratic primary. You can declare a party affiliation when you register. Voters who are not affiliated with any party can declare a party affiliation at the polls to vote in one of the primaries.
