Reopening Of Atlantic City Aquarium Delayed Again

The aquarium, which "temporarily" closed in 2020, was supposed to reopen in July 2024, and then in September. Now, a new date is announced:

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — After being delayed several times, the long-awaited reopening of the Atlantic City Aquarium is set for December, officials said Monday.

Mayor Marty Small Sr. announced the news at a conference held at Gardner's Basin, the historic landmark housing the aquarium.

The Atlantic City Aquarium was first said to be reopening this past July. Then, that date was pushed back to September.

"We still have some work to do," Small said, adding that "hopefully" it would reopen sometime in December. No specific date was shared.

Small said that there would be new exhibits when the aquarium reopened.

Initially, the closure in March 2020 was supposed to be temporary. The pandemic drew out the closure as officials worked on much-needed improvements, with delays in the supply chain causing issues.

Also, once work started, it was quickly realized that the damage and repairs needed were much greater than previously thought. The combination of these two factors meant that the renovation schedule was delayed.
