Woman Shot In Face In Road Rage Incident Near Stockton University: Police

Ernest Wesley Heinz, 46, is charged with criminal attempt homicide after shooting a woman in the face from a car, police said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — The suspect in Thursday afternoon's shooting near Stockton University was captured, Galloway police said.

Ernest Wesley Heinz, 46, was charged with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose after shooting a Galloway woman in the face from his car in a road rage incident, police said.

The victim called 911 to report being shot in the face by a man in another vehicle who fled north onto Vera Ferris Drive onto the campus of Stockton University, police said.

She was able to tell responding officers that the shooter was a white male with blond hair in a ponytail, in a white Honda SUV, police said.

The woman was hospitalized and is currently recovering in stable condition, police said.

Heinz, a Port Republic resident, was discovered several hours later at a home in the Blue Heron Pines Development in Galloway, according to police. Search warrants were then executed on three homes in Port Republic, a home in Galloway and two vehicles.

He is an actor, according to his IMDB profile. Heinz has had several small roles in TV shows and movies, along with the video game series "Resident Evil."

Heinz was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.


"The prompt and professional actions of our officers resulted in a quick apprehension of Mr. Heinz," said Chief Eric B. Hendrickson. He also offered well wishes to the victim and support to the community following "this senseless incident."

Stockton President Joe Bertolino put out a message thanking everyone for their cooperation.

"The decision to issue the directive was made out of an abundance of caution, following notification from the Stockton University Police Department of a reported shooting incident in the surrounding off-campus area," he said. "While the incident did not occur on campus, the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always our highest priority."
