1 Killed, 2 Seriously Injured In Crash At Gloucester Twp. Intersection: Police

Several people were extricated from the heavily damaged vehicles.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — One person died and two were seriously injured in a crash Saturday night in Gloucester Township, authorities said.

A sedan and an SUV forcefully collided just before 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of Berlin-Cross Keys Road and Johnson Road, police said. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, entrapping the sedan driver and both SUV occupants.

Firefighters extricated all three people, who were seriously injured. They were treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital, where the SUV driver succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Nobody else's conditions were immediately available.

A preliminary investigation determined the sedan was traveling southbound on Cross Keys Road when it collided with the SUV at Johnson Road, police said.

Police withheld the identities of all involved, citing the ongoing investigation.

It's unclear what caused the crash, but Gloucester Township Police issued the following statement:

"The Gloucester Township Police Department reminds all motorists to stay alert, minimize distractions, and drive responsibly at all times. Obeying traffic signals and adhering to posted speed limits are essential steps in preventing serious and fatal motor vehicle crashes. Safe driving saves lives."

The intersection was closed for several hours after the accident.
