Blackwood to Face Erial in District Championship?

Blackwood Kiwanis Little League's 12-year-old all-star team plays tonight against Barrington for the right to face unbeaten Erial in the District 14 championship.

Blackwood Kiwanis Little League's Majors All-Stars will play Barrington tonight in its biggest game so far in the District 14 tournament.

With a win, Blackwood advances to the district championship, where it would face crosstown rival Erial.

With a loss, the Blackwood boys go home for the summer.

Blackwood (3-1) advanced to tonight's game against Barrington (3-1)—the game will be played at Haddon Heights beginning at 6 p.m.—with a 7-4 win over Haddon Heights Friday night.

Barrington beat Blackwood, 14-4, last Monday.

Blackwood battled back from a 2-0 deficit after one inning Friday night, tying the game on a two-run home run by Patrick Makel in the second.

Haddon Heights again took the lead, with a run in the third, but Blackwood used the long ball to reclaim the lead, 4-3, with back-to-back solo bombs by Brian Pereira and Matt Prendergast.

After Haddon Heights tied the game, 4-4, in the top of the fifth, Joey Logan's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame plated the eventual game-winning run. Jake Jones smacked a two-run double later in the fifth to give Blackwood a 7-4 lead.

Erial, which is unbeaten and advanced to the championship with a win over Barrington Saturday night, will host the championship game, or games—if Erial beats tonight's Blackwood-Barrington winner on Tuesday, it's district champion, but if it loses Tuesday, it would have a second chance to claim the title, on Wednesday.

Erial advanced to the championship round with a 6-2 win over Barrington Saturday night.

The game was delayed for an hour and 15 minutes after lightning struck in the area just nine pitches into the night's action.

Matt Mastrogiovanni picked up his second win of the tournament Saturday, going four innings and allowing just one hit—a home run in the second inning by Barrington's Matt Diorio.

Ryan Colbert put Erial in the lead for good in the second inning by "absolutely crushing" his fourth home run of the tournament, Erial manager Jeff Mastrogiovanni said.

Matt Mastrogiovanni knocked in the eventual game-winning run in the third inning when he stroked an RBI double.

Trey Crumpler also hit a home run for Erlal. It was his third of the tournament.
