COVID Hub To Close, Camden Co. To Provide Vaccines In New Location

It's still a pandemic, the World Health Org. says. But U.S. officials will end the public-health emergency on May 11.

BLACKWOOD, NJ — With many residents at least partially vaccinated against COVID-19 and pandemic demands less of a factor, the Camden County Health Hub will close later this month. The facility, where thousands of COVID tests and vaccines were administered, will continue operations through April 27.

County officials opened the Health Hub in October 2021 at Camden County College's Blackwood Campus, providing a one-stop shop for basic COVID needs.

After April 27, the county's Bellmawr clinic (35 East Browning Rd., Bellmawr) will continue offering COVID vaccines by appointment to pediatric Pfizer patients. Adults needing vaccines can check the county's pop-up clinic schedule, while pediatric Moderna patients should go to South Jersey Family Medicine.

The Health Hub has test kits available for pickup but no longer administers COVID tests.

The World Health Organization says the pandemic isn't over. However, President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan Congressional resolution Monday that will allow the national public-health emergency to expire May 11.

In Camden County, 87.3 percent of residents have received at least one COVID shot while 73.1 percent completed the initial vaccination series. However, the county mirrors the nationwide trend of low booster rates, with only 18.8 percent having received the bivalent vaccine as of Tuesday, according to the CDC.

"On top of being readily available at nearly every pharmacy and doctors' office, our health department has begun traveling across the county multiple times a week to administer vaccines at pop up locations," County Commissioner Virginia Betteridge said in a statement. "So even though the hub is closing, we will continue to serve our residents in the most effective way we can."

The Health Hub will continue on its normal schedule through April 27: 2-5 p.m. Tuesdays and 2-6 p.m. Thursdays. Schedule an appointment here.

The federal government still has free COVID tests available for delivery. Check the CDC's COVID-vaccine webpage to find a vaccine site near you.
