'Courageous Young Man': Camden Co. Firefighter, 25, Dies After Battle With Illness

HI-NELLA, NJ — Joseph Tindall, a Hi-Nella firefighter remembered for his bravery, died Tuesday after battling an undisclosed illness. He was 25.

Tindall, of Stratford, knew from a young age that he wanted to be a firefighter. He began as a cadet for the Deptford Fire Department at age 12. He later became a junior firefighter for the Laurel Springs Fire Department before becoming a general member and volunteer at Hi-Nella Fire Company No. 1.

Outside of helping his community, Tindall loved online gaming and animals, according to his obituary.

"He made his parents, family and friends extremely proud," the obituary says. "He continued to be a hero with the kind and selfless act of becoming a donor for the Gift of Life Program, where he is continuing his passion for saving others."

Several local fire departments have mourned Tindall's loss.

"Firefighter Joseph Tindall was a courageous young man and was always eager to help out on emergency, and would always been helping someone in need," said Clementon Fire Rescue Station 61. "Joey fought a tough health battle for such a young man."

"Joey demonstrated steadfast dedication to Company 69 (Hi-Nella Fire Co.) in the time he served," said Magnolia Fire Company 29, "displaying a constant desire to learn how to help others in their time of need. His loss is significant and will be felt by many."

"Please keep our neighbors of Hi-Nella Fire Company No. 1 and the family of Firefighter Joseph Tindall in your thoughts as they mourn his passing after battling an illness," said Lawnside Fire Company. "Rest easy Brother."

In lieu of flowers, Tindall's obituary says memorial donations can be made in his name to the Gift of Life Donor Program or Help Hope Live.
