CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — The Camden County Department of Public Works is treating streets and stands ready to clear the snow from a moderate storm that was expected on Thursday.
“Our crews have been monitoring the weather carefully and are prepared to remove snow and treat roadways throughout the day,” Camden County Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works, said. “In preparation for this winter weather, crews have loaded up trucks, repaired plows and made sure all of our tree removal equipment is ready to go due to the breezy conditions that are expected.”
South Jersey may see some snow until 3 p.m., but forecasters anticipate less than an inch accumulating. There are concerns for surfaces to freeze, especially as temperatures will drop well below freezing, but the wind should help to aid in drying surfaces. “Unless you need to be on the roadways today, stay home. Anyone who does need to drive should be prepared to encounter slick road conditions. As our crews head out to treat the roads, remember to always leave at least six car lengths behind our vehicles while they work and move any cars off the street and into a driveway,” Dyer said. “And remember, it’s illegal in New Jersey to plow or shovel snow from private property into roadways.”
At the public works complex in Lindenwold, more than 100 pieces of equipment are available to keep county roadways passable. When the weather becomes treacherous, personnel will be dispatched to 12 winter maintenance districts to salt and plow 1,200 lane miles of roadways across Camden County. The county’s response plan calls for crews to be dispatched only to the zones where they are needed.
