Fiery, Head-On Crash Injures Multiple People In Gloucester Twp.: Police

The injured parties were brought to at least 3 different hospitals.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A fiery, head-on crash sent multiple people to hospitals Wednesday night in Gloucester Township, police said.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. in the township's Sicklerville section.

A driver lost control of their sedan while traveling westbound on Hickstown Road, police said. On the roadway's 600 block, the car entered the eastbound lane and hit an SUV head-on, according to law enforcement.

One vehicle caught fire, entrapping people inside. But a nearby resident responded quickly with a fire extinguisher to control the burning, police said.

The sedan driver suffered "serious bodily injury," police said. People in both vehicles were brought to various hospitals, including Cooper University Hospital in Camden and Virtua's hospitals in Voorhees and Berlin.

Police did not say how many people were hurt or their conditions.

Officials withheld the identities of anyone involved Thursday morning as they worked to notify family.

Hickstown Road was closed between Erial Road and Peter Cheeseman Road for several hours.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed as of Thursday morning.
