Free Training in Projected High-Growth Field

Camden County College will offer free training in electronic health records management.

In times of high unemployment, you often see reports about the next big career fields expected to come down the pike to help revive the sluggish economy.

One of the most talked about career fields today is electronic health records management—thanks in large part to the $27 billion the federal government is doling out under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health portion of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Estimates put new jobs in the field at about 50,000 over the next few years.

Camden County College (CCC) would like to help you get one of those 50,000 jobs.

The school's Health Information Technology Department is offering three career-training programs in the field in a fully online format or as a combination of online and on-campus learning known as “hybrid.” Both options can be completed in just six months.

CCC will host informational sessions at its Camden and Blackwood campuses over the next few weeks about how you can enroll in three electronic health records programs, which will be free for most who enroll, and the career opportunities they will present.

The first session will be held Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. in room 510 of College Hall of CCC's Camden campus.

The second will be held March 9 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the conference room of Wolverton Learning Resources Center of CCC's Blackwood campus.

Program curricula, the application process and related issues will be discussed at each of the information sessions. Additional information sessions will be scheduled.

Training will prepare students to work as a workflow redesign specialist, who works with health-care providers to analyze and redesign the flow of work and data; an implementation support specialist, who works on-site during a transition to or redesign of an electronic health records system; or a trainer, who delivers electronic health records training programs in clinical and healthcare settings.

Students who successfully complete a program will receive a certificate along with college credits. Full scholarships will be available to many students who enroll in these programs.

Funding for the programs and scholarships was supplied to CCC and 12 other higher-learning institutions through a grant awarded as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
