Multiple People Rescued From Burning School Bus In Camden Co.

Good Samaritans sprung into action while the bus was on fire.

BERLIN, NJ — Good Samaritans rescued several people, including a child, from a burning school bus Tuesday morning in Camden County, authorities said.

A small school bus caught fire just before 8 a.m. in Berlin. A child, an adult passenger and a driver were in the vehicle, police said.

Before first responders arrived, several good Samaritans helped everyone out of the bus. The good Samaritans and a tow truck driver from Linden Auto Body deployed fire extinguishers before firefighters fully extinguished the blaze.

The vehicle also leaked a "substantial amount" of fluids, which the Camden County Highway Department covered with sand to make the roadway safe, police said. It's unclear whether the fluids were linked to the cause of the fire.

Berlin's police chief thanked the good Samaritans and first responders who helped.

"Quick action definitely played a critical role in the fact there were no injuries to report," said Police Chief Michael Scheer.
