Moms Talk: The 'Role Model' Talk

When you hear of a TV or sports star you know children emulate falling from grace—hmm, a recent one comes to mind—what do you tell your kid?

Tabloid dream-come-true Charlie Sheen may have looked serious when he called himself a role model on a network TV morning show last week.

Surely, not even Sheen can believe that.

The troubled, now-former star of CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men more than likely agrees with basketball Hall-of-Famer Charles Barkley, who once declared after finding himself in hot water, "I am not a role model."

As adults, we can see that Sheen isn't, well, a model role model. Some may even argue that Sheen, due to his myriad troubles with drugs and run-ins with the law, is not a role model in any way, shape or form, while some may say there are elements of the actor's life that are worthy of admiration and emulation.

What Patch wants to know from you is: How do you convince your children that the stars they see on the movie or TV screen or on the court, ice or field are not role models? How do you convince them to look up to their favorite teacher or coach?

Or, are you OK with your kid emulating Charlie Sheen, Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, Jay-Z or Cameron Diaz?
