Number Of New COVID-19 Cases In Camden County Drops Below 500

The delta variant accounted for more than 98 percent of COVID-19 cases in New Jersey over a four-week period.

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Camden County and New Jersey have seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for the county?

As of Friday, there have been 60,194 coronavirus cases and 1,323 coronavirus-related deaths in Burlington County since the pandemic began in March 2020.

This is an increase of 488 cases and eight deaths from last week, when there were 59,706 coronavirus cases and 1,315 coronavirus-related deaths in Camden County.

Officials continue to monitor the delta variant, which accounted for more than 98 percent of coronavirus cases in New Jersey over the last four-weeks, according to data provided by the state department of health.

Camden County has "moderate" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest weekly report. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.

“The approval to administer the Pfizer vaccine to kids may be one of the most important developments in our continuing fight against this insidious disease and will get us one step closer to a post-pandemic world,” Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. said. “Please make an appointment at the Camden County Health Hub by visiting www.CamdenCountyVaccine.com.”

As of Friday, 391,471 Camden County residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 316,176 are fully vaccinated and 53,030 have received a third dose.

The county Health Department is continuing to closely track new cases of COVID-19 and information regarding the prevalence of the Delta variant. New cases are often reassigned to other municipalities over the course of an investigation.
