Police Rescue Dog from Apartment Fire

Gloucester Township police got a surprise as first-responders to a smoky apartment fire at Lakeview Apartments on Saturday.

The resident was not home, but police learned a pet dog was inside a unit at building 172, in the 500 block of Lower Landing Road.

Officers went into the apartment before firefighters arrived and retrieved the dog.

Neither man nor pooch was injured in the fire. The dog was returned to its owner.

The fire was contained to the initial apartment and no other units were damaged. The fire is under investigation by the Chews Landing Fire Marshal's Office.

The blazes appears to have started in the laundry room.
