South Jersey School District Will Open Late Day After Super Bowl

"We feel that it's important to give students and staff the opportunity to enjoy the game with their families," the school district wrote.

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ - It’s a Gloucester City thing.

Gloucester City Public Schools will operate on a delayed opening schedule the day after the Super Bowl to give students and staff some much-needed rest after rooting for their favorite local team, officials said this week.

“All district schools will be on a 2-hour delayed opening schedule on Monday, February 13,” the Gloucester City school district wrote in a message to parents. “It is a rare and special time for families to watch our local professional football team compete in the Super Bowl. We feel that it’s important to give students and staff the opportunity to enjoy the game with their families and still attend school & work the next day safely and well-rested.”

The delayed opening schedule will affect the district’s three schools: Cold Springs School, Gloucester Middle School and Gloucester High School.

The school district is a mere five and a half miles as the crow flies from the home stadium of the Philadelphia Eagles, which will face the Kansas City Chiefs for the Super Bowl event in Glendale, Arizona.

When the Birds last won the Super Bowl in 2018, Collingswood and Oaklyn schools closed to allow families the chance to “witness history and celebrate our Super Bowl Champion Eagles.” Read more: Collingswood Schools To Close For Eagles Super Bowl Parade

It’s not immediately clear whether the same districts will close entirely the day after the big game should the Birds emerge victorious.
