Two Township Historic Sites Get Total of $50K for Repairs

The Gabriel Daveis Tavern and the Robert Marshall House in Gloucester Township will get $25,000 each from Camden County grants.

The Gabriel Daveis Tavern and Robert Marshall House, two historic sites in Gloucester Township, will get $25,000 each from a Camden County historic preservation fund.

The money will replace the well roof, porch roof and pent roof of the 18th-century tavern and repair the chimney and cornices on the 1720 federal style home.

“A total of twelve projects will benefit from this $399,000 investment from the Camden County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historical Preservation Trust Fund,” said Freeholder Jeffrey L. Nash, liaison to the county’s Open Space Preservation Trust Fund Advisory Committee. “These historic structures not only tell the story of Camden County, they continue to serve the community as museums and community centers.”

In 1998, the residents of Camden County voted overwhelmingly in support of a referendum to create the Camden County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historical Preservation Trust Fund, to be used to acquire, preserve and maintain environmentally sensitive lands, open space, drinking water sources, historic sites, recreation areas and farmland within Camden County.
