'Unsung Hero': Gloucester Township Mourns Retired Officer, Firefighter
After retiring, Michael Versaggi worked security at Eagles games and held the Lombardi Trophy after they won the Super Bowl.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Michael Versaggi, a retired Gloucester Township police officer and firefighter remembered for his friendly demeanor, died on Tuesday. He was 63.
Versaggi, of Erial, was a police officer in the township from 1985-2006. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Blackwood Fire Company, becoming its president and a life member, and as a volunteer EMT for the Glendora Rescue Squad.
After retiring, Versaggi worked for New Jersey's Division of Fire Safety and for APEX Security. In the latter role, he worked the front gates of Lincoln Financial Field during Eagles games. He also worked security at Super Bowl LII in 2018, which the Eagles won, and got to hold the Lombardi Trophy.

"Michael was an unsung hero, always helping anyone in his path, and his compassionate, warm presence turned a stranger into a friend in no time," his obituary says. "Michael’s life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to protecting and serving his community."
