Whiz Kids: This Week's Is Really Fast

Damiere Byrd will play football at the University of South Carolina beginning in the fall, but he recently turned heads on the track.

  • Whiz Kid's Name -  Damiere Byrd
  • Whiz Kid's Age - 18
  • Whiz Kid's School - Timber Creek Regional High School
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment - Damiere is a national champion! He won the New Balance Indoor Nationals 60-meter dash championship in New York City over the weekend with a time of 6.74 seconds. He has signed a letter of intent to play football for coach Steve Spurrier at the University of South Carolina.
  • Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness - Damiere clearly has used his great speed to become a premier football player. He was ranked the 20th best wide receiver in the country by Rivals.com. But he's about more than his athletic prowess on the gridiron and track. An aspiring athletic trainer, Damiere is an honors student carrying a 3.3 GPA and serves on the Timber Creek student council.

Editor's Note: Know a great kid who made Eagle Scout or did your local soccer team take the championship? They may be our next Patch Whiz Kids honoree.
