Workplace Accident Kills Highway Worker In Camden Co.: Police

The man who died 'always putting others before himself,' according to a GoFundMe assisting his family.

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, NJ — A construction worker died in a workplace accident when a truck backed into him Friday on the Atlantic City Expressway, according to State Police.

It happened around 7 a.m. in Winslow Township.

An attenuator truck driver was backing up to pick up cones when they accidentally ran over a worker who was behind the vehicle, said Sgt. Charles Marchan, a State Police spokesperson.

The worker — Dominick Tarsitano, 31, of Egg Harbor Township — died from his injuries, Marchan said.

The truck driver was unaware that anyone was behind the truck, Marchan said.

Tarsitano was working as a subcontractor for the South Jersey Transportation Authority during the accident, according to nj.com.

A GoFundMe campaign is raising money for Tarsitano's funeral and to honor his memory. More than $53,000 has been raised as of 9 a.m. Monday.

"He had a heart bigger than most — always putting others before himself, always showing up, always full of light," his family said in a statement. "His laughter, warmth, and kind soul left a mark on everyone who knew him."

The accident remains under investigation.
