Hackettstown: Home Of Chocolate, Candy And Beer

Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Hackettstown so special.

Hackettstown is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Hackettstown has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Hackettstown is home to the famous Mars Wrigley Confectionery, where they produce some of America's favorite candies, including M&M's, Skittles and Starburst. Visitors can take a tour of the facility and learn about the history of the candy-making process.
  • The Stephens State Park, located in Hackettstown, is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts. The park features hiking trails, fishing, camping and picnicking areas. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Musconetcong River and the beautiful waterfall.
  • If you're a beer enthusiast, you'll be happy to know that Hackettstown is home to the popular Czig Meister Brewery, which serves a variety of craft beers. Visitors can take a tour of the brewery and try some of their award-winning beers, including the Blacksmith Stout and the Marzen Oktoberfest.
  • The Hackettstown Free Public Library has a unique collection of historical books and materials. The library's Local History Room features rare and out-of-print books, maps and other documents related to Hackettstown's history. It's a great resource for those interested in local history.
  • Hackettstown is home to Centenary University, a private university founded in 1867. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, including business, education and science. It also has a strong athletic program, with 14 NCAA Division III sports teams.
  • The Hackettstown BID (Business Improvement District) hosts several annual events throughout the year, including a St. Patrick's Day Parade, a Halloween Parade and a tree lighting ceremony during the holiday season. These events are fun for both locals and visitors and help bring the community together.
  • Hackettstown is located near several popular outdoor recreational areas, including the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Allamuchy Mountain State Park and Jenny Jump State Forest. These areas offer a variety of activities, such as hiking, camping, fishing and skiing.
  • The Hackettstown Medical Center is a top-ranked hospital in the state, offering a wide range of medical services to the community. The hospital is part of the Atlantic Health System, which is known for its high-quality patient care.
  • The Hackettstown Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the town's history and educating the community about its rich past. The society offers a variety of programs and events throughout the year, including lectures, exhibits and historical reenactments.
  • Hackettstown is home to the Centenary Stage Company, a professional theatre company that offers a diverse range of performances, including plays, musicals and concerts. The company also hosts an annual summer theatre festival, featuring a variety of performances and workshops.
  • The Hackettstown Train Station is a historic landmark in the town, built in 1868. It was originally part of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad and served as an important transportation hub for the region. Today, the train station has been restored and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Hackettstown is home to the Centenary University Equestrian Center, one of the country's top equestrian programs. The center offers riding lessons, training and boarding for both students and the public.
