Hackettstown to Open Town Refuge in Face of Arctic Cold

Here's what to do in Hackettstown if your power or heat go out.

The North Jersey area is in for it Tuesday with an icy cold front and a wind chill that will make zero temperatures feel as frigid as 25 degrees below zero. That kind of cold can be lethal, especially with power outages or furnace failures.

To protect the townsfolk, Hackettstown is announcing that the Municipal Building on Stiger Street is going to be used as a warming center. Anyone who experiences heat or power failures can go to the building and recharge their cell phones, laptops, and themselves.

The hours for the warming center will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, the approximate length of the frigid cold spell. The town announced the hours and days may be extended if necessary if the abnormal cold continues beyond what's been forecast.
