Hackettstown Woman Uninjured After Crashing Into Pole To Avoid Animal: Police

Route 517 was closed on Saturday while Jersey Central Power & Light worked on restoring power to the area, police said.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.– A township woman was uninjured after she swerved to avoid an animal in the roadway and crashed into a utility pole, authorities said.

Shortly before 2 a.m., Marlene Mrad, 34, was heading south on Route 517 in her 2014 Toyota when she swerved and struck the pole, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

Over 100 Jersey Central Power & Light customers lost power due to the accident, according to Tynan.

Route 517 was closed between Franklin and Miller Streets while JCP&L completed work, Tynan said.

The estimated restoration time was 1:30 p.m. Saturday, he added.

No summonses were issued.

The Hackettstown Fire Police, Warren County Road Department and JCP&L assisted.
