Officials ID Cyclist, Trooper Involved In Fatal Hackettstown Crash
A New Jersey State Police sergeant was in an unmarked SUV when he struck the 59-year-old cyclist last Monday morning, the AG's office said.
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A 59-year-old Morris County man has been identified as the cyclist struck and killed by a New Jersey state trooper last week in Hackettstown.
According to the state Attorney General's Office, the crash took place around 6 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5. Officials said Sergeant First Class Kesene Grier was in an unmarked police SUV, and collided with an adult male cyclist on Willow Grove Street in the area of Brook Hollow Drive.
First responders transported the cyclist, identified as 59-year-old Raul L. Diaz of Long Valley, to Hackettstown Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m.

"The circumstances leading to and surrounding this crash are under investigation," AG Matthew Platkin's office said on Feb. 1.
The AG's office is investigating the crash, as is protocol when a death occurs during an encounter with police. Officials did not release any other details at this time.
