March 2025 Notice (Lawnside Historical Society Announcement)

Guy Weston, managing director of the Timbuctoo Historical Society, Burlington County, outlines the role of Black Churches in the Underground Railroad. Beginning with the legacy of Timbuctoo as a classic example, this presentation will discuss the role of Black churches in the Underground Railroad in antebellum America overall, and southern New Jersey in particular. We will also examine the leadership, contributions as well as impediments.

This presentation is the highlight of the monthly March meeting of the Lawnside Historical Society, Thursday, March 13 at 7 p.m. via zoom. The program is free but advance registration is required.

Mr. Weston is an educator, editor and author, well-versed in genealogy, African-American history and the little-known story of Timbuctoo in Westampton Township, a Black enclave that dates to the early 19th century.
