'Haddy' Is Ready for Its Closeup

Haddonfield is sponsoring a photo contest to highlight one of its distinguished residents.

The 8-foot, bronze Hadrosauras Foulki statue, which commemorates the landmark 1858 discovery of an intact dinosaur skeleton here, is the centerpiece of a contest to celebrate the decade-old landmark affectionately known as "Haddy."

"To celebrate the recent recognition of Best of South Jersey by 'USA Today,' Best of Philadelphia for Hidden Gems, Haddonfield is hosting a Flat Haddy contest," a borough statement said. "Winners will be announced during Haddonfield's Tricentennial Festival on October 19 and will receive a $100 Haddonfield town-wide gift certificate."

To enter, go online to www.shophaddonfieldnj.com to print out Flat Haddy, creatively decorate it and photograph it having fun in downtown Haddonfield or any place else. Print photographs and bring it to the Haddonfield Information Center on or before October 12. Only printed photos will be eligible to win grand prize. Photos may also be e-mail digital to infocenter@haddonfieldnj.org to be posted to the web and Facebook. Only printed photos will be judged. Photos will be displayed in the Information Center window all summer.

Haddy was created by Haddonfield sculptor John Giannotti. He has created some of the most iconic artworks in the region and sculptures around the world. Funding for the project came from individuals and local companies.
