Jukebox Musical 'Head Over Heels' Coming To Haddonfield High School

HADDONFIELD, NJ — Prepare to fall "Head Over Heels" at the upcoming Haddonfield Memorial High School spring musical set to the music of rock group The Go-Go's.

This "unique and energetic" jukebox musical explores themes of family, love, identity, and acceptance, the school district said in the spring show announcement.

In this contemporary show, the royal family of Arcadia takes an "outrageous journey" to save their kingdom from extinction, learning how transformational the power of love can be along the way. Their escapades are set to Go-Go's hits such as “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” and “Mad About You.”

“This is something totally different for us,” says director and science faculty member Matt DiDonato. “While our programming choices have usually been traditional shows from the Golden Age, this musical has exposed our students to a more contemporary style that is popular on Broadway today. It has been an absolute blast to work on this challenging script along with the energetic pop-rock music.”

Performances are March 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. and March 12 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 general admission and $12 for students and seniors, and they can be purchased on the drama club website.

The show does explore themes of sexuality, though explicit language has been removed and there "is no explicit staging of sexual intimacy," the drama club said.

"Head Over Heels" opened at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2015 before opening on Broadway in 2018.
