WESTMONT, NJ — McMillan's Bakery will close after 85 years of serving sweets, the business announced Tuesday.

The Westmont bakery has been passed down through several generations of family ownership. A timeframe for closing hasn't been determined.

The mixed-use building housing McMillan's is for sale. The business hopes to stay open for as long as possible throughout the sale process.

"We would love to be a part of at least one more holiday season with all of you and your families!" the McMillan's family announced on Facebook. "We promise that when our family knows more regarding a closing date- you, our loyal customers, will know as well."

The announcement comes a year after longtime owner Arline McMillan Biemiller's death.

George and Evelyn McMillan founded the bakery in 1939. They passed it down to their oldest daughter, Arline, and her husband, Gary Biemiller Sr., who expanded the business under their ownership.

Arline, who died last November, was "the glue that held our family business together," the closing announcement said. Her children and grandchildren have carried on the family legacy.

McMillan's is known for their cream doughnuts, snowflake rolls and other sweets, often getting lines out the door as customers pick up holiday treats.

The bakery is located on 15 Haddon Ave.
