In 1959, Joseph and Philomena Santucci opened their first namesake restaurant on "O" Street in Phildelphia's Juniata Park neighborhood. Their family recipe — making pizza in a square pan with the sauce above the cheese — was considered unconventional at first but has since inspired pizzerias throughout the city.
Santucci's now has about a dozen locations, including one in Washington Township. Restaurants in Cherry Hill and Deptford are coming soon, according to the Santucci's website. But it's unclear when they might open.
