Man Forcibly Opens Car With Mom, Child Inside In Bergen County

Two men, who were driving a stolen vehicle, forcibly opened the door of a car with a woman and her child inside and ordered her to exit.

LYNDHURST, NJ — A woman was sitting in the driver's seat of her parked car Thursday in Lyndhurst when suddenly an unknown man forcibly opened the door and ordered her to get out, Police Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri. She had her young child in the rear seat of the vehicle when the incident occurred.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., the man, who — along with another male suspect — was believed to have been "casing" the area targeting high-end vehicles, approached the luxury SUV on Sanford Avenue. He approached the car and spotted the woman's young child in the back seat, which police believe "startled" him, Auteri said.

Both men subsequently retreated to their vehicle, which was reported stolen out of Elizabeth, and drove away; they were last seen traveling into Nutley, police said.
