Wanted Man Crashes, Escapes Into Swamp In Bergen County: Police
A man wanted on an outstanding warrant fled police after he was involved in a crash Wednesday on Route 3 West.
RUTHERFORD, NJ — A Newark man involved in a crash on Route 3 Wednesday fled from police after it was discovered he had an active warrant out for a parole violation, Rutherford Police Chief John Russo said.
Ali Scott, 35, was traveling in a vehicle west on Route 3 when one of the tires bounced over the divider and hit a vehicle traveling east. During the crash investigation, police determined Scott had an outstanding warrant, and, in the process of handcuffing him, he managed to break free and flee across the highway into a nearby swamp, Russo said.
Rutherford police, assisted by Lyndhurst police and Bergen County Sheriff's Office K-9 units, searched the area but were unable to find him, police said.
