Bergen County Officer Hospitalized After Blow To Head From Suspect

The incident took place during an attempted burglary arrest on Tuesday, police said.

RUTHERFORD, NJ - A police officer in Bergen County was struck on the head by a fleeing burglary suspect Tuesday, authorities said.

The burglary suspect fled the scene on foot and was arrested several blocks away, the Rutherford PBA said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

The details of the burglary were not immediately made clear. A second suspect was also taken into custody in connection with the burglary.

“Our brother was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained during the collision and released later in the day,” the Rutherford PBA said. “Please join us in wishing him a speedy recovery.”

The PBA thanked Lyndhurst police for their assistance at the scene.
