Severe Storms On the Way
Temperature is up to 99 degrees with heat index of 105. The National Weather Service predicts severe thunderstorms beginning after 4 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Bergen County until 9 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service reports.
A heat advisory continues to be in effect for the area until 6 p.m. Wednesday night. Temperatures hover at 100 degrees with a heat index of about 105, the weather service reports.
Seniors and residents with health conditons are advised to stay indoors. The county announced Tuesday that . Two of the closest to the Heights area are the county administration building in Hackensack and the South Bergen Multipurpose Senior Activity Center in East Rutherford.

The forecast according to the National Weather Service is:
- Wednesday afternoon - Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 100. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Wednesday night - Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 10pm. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Thursday - A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 91. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Thursday Night - A chance of showers, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
