Cops Save Elderly Resident Trapped Inside Burning Home In Somerset County: Police

The elderly resident with mobility issues was still inside the home that was engulfed in flames when police arrived early Friday morning.

MONTGOMERY, NJ — Three police officers saved an elderly resident from a burning home early Friday morning.

At 4:13 a.m., Montgomery Police, Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2, and Montgomery EMS responded to Opossum Road for a house fire.

Officers were told that an elderly resident with mobility issues was still inside the home, said Montgomery Police Lt. Jason Larsen.

When police arrived, the house was engulfed in fire.

Officer Vanessa Hunter found some of the residents at the back of the house, who directed her to the elderly resident who was near the back doorway.

"Sergeant Thomas Ward and Officer Ryan Martinez arrived shortly after, and together the three officers were able to move the elderly resident to a safe location," said Larsen.

Two residents were taken to local hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation. The other residents were treated at the scene.

Fire companies from surrounding jurisdictions helped with extinguishing the fire.

The Montgomery Township Fire Marshall is investigating how the fire originated.
