All three fire departments and fire district staff worked together to rescue the trapped person on Thursday morning.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Volunteer firefighters cut open a car to rescue a trapped person after a crash on Thursday in Hillsborough.

Once stabilized, firefighters cut the car's roof, folded it back, and freed the patient.

"This was a cooperative effort among members of all three fire companies and the district career staff," said the department.

Two patients were treated by Robert Wood Johnson EMS for injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that a blue Honda sedan was traveling north on Wescott Road, approaching the intersection of Amwell Road.

At that time, a grey Hyundai SUV was traveling west on Amwell Road. The Honda continued north through the intersection and entered the Hyundai's lane of travel, striking it on the driver's side, according to Hillsborough Police Captain Scott W. Mc Carthy.

The Hyundai came into contact with a curb, causing the vehicle to be placed on its side and slid on the grass, said Mc Carthy.

The investigation is ongoing.
