Hillsborough Native Named Valedictorian at Immaculata High School
A township native was named the Immaculata Class of 2015's Valedictorian.

A Hillsborough native was named the Valedictorian for the 2015 graduating class at Immaculata High School in Somerville.
Matt Dowling was named the Valedictorian for the school’s graduation set for Saturday, May 30, according to school officials.
Dowling plans on pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering at Northeastern University in the fall. He achieved a number of accomplishments in his tenure at Immaculata, including being named a National Merit Commended Scholar. Additionally, Dowling was nominated for the New Jersey Governor’s School of Science, he won a bronze award and honorable mention for the National Spanish Exam, was voted Vice President of National Honor Society and was a member of the Spanish Honor Society, school officials said.

Dowling also participated in school activities outside of the classroom. He has been a member of the Immaculata High School baseball team for the past four years and is currently a pitcher on the varsity team, according to school officials.
Dowling recalled his experiences at Immaculata and emphasized relationships made with other students. “Besides the great Catholic education I received here at Immaculata, what I treasure most from my four years here are the great experiences I had with the many friends I made as well as the way Immaculata showed me what it is like to be part of a tight knit, family community,” Dowling said in a release from Immaculata High School.

Dowling was admitted into the honors college at Northeastern and earned an academic scholarship to attend the university, as well.
Immaculata’s commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 30, at St. James Church in Basking Ridge. The school will graduate 163 students in the 2015 graduating class.
