Hillsborough Resident Recieves Service Award

The Hillsborough resident was honored for his long-term and continuous exemplary service.

Watchung Hills Regional High School District Business Administrator (BA)/Board Secretary and Hillsborough resident Timothy Stys recently was honored by the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO) with a 2015 Distinguished Service Award for his long-term, continuous exemplary service.

As part of the award, Stys had the honor of presenting a $1,000 scholarship from NJASBO to Watchung Hills Regional High School senior Anthony Garcia.

Among just six Distinguished Service Awardees statewide, Stys has served as BA/Board Secretary for Watchung Hills Regional High School District since 2007. Prior to that, he served in the same role for the Montgomery Township School District, the North Plainfield School District, and Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools; he was Assistant BA for the Middlesex County Vocational & Technical Schools at the start of his career in school business administration from 1992 to 1995.

In nominating Stys for the Distinguished Service Award, Aiman Mahmoud, president of Somerset County ASBO said, “Tim is the main contact for county questions and has shared insightful solutions to difficult problems.”

Alan Walker, vice president of the NJASBO Associate Business Member Group, said, “I have had the privilege of knowing Mr. Stys for over 15 years and I feel he embodies the characteristics of what [business administration] is based on; he lives by the highest standards of ethics and efficiency, collaborates well with other school districts, and entities that affect public education.”

Stys received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Rutgers School of Business, and a masters degree in Education Administration from Rider University.

Stys has served as president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer of SCASBO. He also is a member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. Stys and his wife of 26 years, Patti, have two children, Natalie and Randy.

The New Jersey Association of School Business Officials (NJASBO) is a professional association that promotes the highest standards of ethics and efficiency, provides its membership with professional development and support, and collaborates with entities that affect public education. The organization comprises individuals who administer or supervise a variety of operations within the school district. Examples include accounting, budgeting, data processing, environmental issues, food service management, maintenance, negotiations, payroll, purchasing and transportation.
