Kareem 'Is A Shining Star All The Time': Hillsborough Star Student

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Akua Osei-Amoako who nominated her son Kareem of Hillsborough who is in 1st grade.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Kareem is a shining star all the time. He is really the sweetest boy you will meet. He goes out of his way to do small acts of kindness for everyone he meets. He helps people at the grocery store, strangers in the street, he will hug a police officer and tell someone who is down to have a blessed day. Kareem struggles with IDD but doesn’t let his challenges affect him. He wakes up everyday eager to make good choices and show the world that love and happiness do exist daily. Kareem received the character education award for Respect at Hillsborough Elementary School in front of everyone. Kareem doesn’t let his special needs damper his day or life and continues to shine each day. We are so proud of all the progress Kareem has made and is continuing to grow with.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

True greatness is shown through words and actions and the impact in the lives of others. Kareem possesses a natural ability to be selfless, thoughtful, kind, honest, and happy all the time. Im a single mom of 4 kids and having this beacon of light in my life makes everything better and worth the struggles.
