New Police Officer Hired To Serve Hillsborough Township

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A new police officer was hired to serve on the Hillsborough Township Police Department.

Jonathan L. Pope was sworn in by Mayor John Ciccarelli at the Dec. 9 Township Committee meeting as a Police Officer.

Pope's employment is effective Dec. 10 at an annual salary of $66,014.

Additionally, the Township Committee also passed a resolution to approve the regular employee status for Justin Mekhail, Brandon Botiquin, and Travis Warnock effective Dec. 13.

Officers Mekhail, Botiquin, and Warnock were previously appointed as Police Officers on Dec. 13, 2024. They have since qualified for regular employee status during the 12-month probationary period.

With the new hires, the police department now has 65 officers in the department.

Ciccarelli previously said in October that the Township Committee has authorized up to 70 hires in total.

"They have six vacancies, and we are recommending to hire three," said Ciccarelli at the Oct. 14 Committee meeting.
