Living Room Fire Sparks At Hillsborough Apartment Building

Volunteer firefighters worked quickly to stop the fire from spreading to other units in the building on Monday.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Volunteer firefighters were quick to put out a fire in an apartment unit to stop the spread to other units in the building on Monday morning.

At around 11:40 a.m., Flagtown Fire/Rescue - Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #1 and Hillsborough Twp Station 37 Fire were called for a possible fire in a unit on Balmoral Court.

Firefighters and police arrived quickly to find a working fire in the living room area of the home.

The call was upgraded, prompting Hillsborough Fire Co. #3 - Station 38, Neshanic Volunteer Fire Company and a Rapid Intervention Company to come help.

"The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the unit of origin. Searches of the unit for trapped occupants proved negative. Adjacent dwellings were searched and ventilated of smoke," said Flagtown Fire.

One person had escaped the apartment before firefighters arrived and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The fire was under control in 15 minutes.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by Hillsborough Township Fire Safety.
