Officers Pull NJ Mother, Kids To Safety Before Car Fire: Reports

A mother and kids were rescued by a police officer just before a fire engulfed their car Friday evening, several media outlets reported.

FRANKLIN, NJ - A Franklin Township mother and kids were rescued by a police officer just before a fire engulfed their car in a Friday evening crash, several media outlets reported.

Shortly after 10 p.m., Franklin Township police responded to a vehicle crash on John F. Kennedy Boulevard near Berger Street after the 38-year-old driver veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree, TAPinto Franklin/Somerset reported.

At the scene, officers pulled the driver and her two children - ages 9 and 11 - to safety moments before smoke and fire engulfed the vehicle, MyCentral Jersey added.

All three crash victims were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick; one officer was also transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation, NJ.com reported.

A request for comment from Franklin police was not immediately returned.
