See Nature Through a Child's Eyes

Check out how children see nature through some wonderful artwork.

We know it can be hard to find things to do around the area on a holiday weekend. That's why we did the searching for you as 2010 turns to 2011. Here is a list of things you may want to check out for New Year's. More information about the events, along with addresses for the venues, can be found by clicking the links.

  1. Go For, Cheer on, a Run–The Resolution Run 5K starting at the Hillsborough municipal building is taking place on Saturday morning at 11. However, make sure you have already registered if you plan on running–registration ended on Christmas Day. However, if you missed the deadline you can still cheer on those running, getting motivated for your own resolutions and runs.
  2. See Nature Through a Child's EyeThe Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center will be hosting its annual art show featuring work from children from Somerset County children. The show begins on Sunday, when it will be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  3. Enjoy the Crisp Air With Your Dog–Start 2011 out with the winter weather and other dog owners by heading out to Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge on Saturday for a dog walk. The walk will start at 1:30 p.m. and will last about an hour. Please be advised that this is later than the usual time for the Saturday walks. There is a $3 fee per dog.
  4. Win an iPad from Patch–That's right, you can win an iPad just by being a Patch reader. Our Bridgewater site is the host of a giveaway, but you need to sign up by the end of the year! Your deadline is 7 p.m. on Friday, New Year's Eve, to head to the link above and follow the directions. You could be the one lucky winner to start your year off with a brand new shinny piece of technology.
  5. Train Display–Trains have been synonymous with the holiday season. So you may find it fun to finish out the year by checking out the Tri-State Railway Historical Society's train display at the Morris Museum. Though the museum is closed on Saturday for New Year's Day, it will be open on Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
