Star Student: Michael Cares For Everyone In Hillsborough And Beyond

We all know students who excel in academics, fine arts, or volunteer service. Here's one local who is making an impact in Hillsborough.

(Brooke Thompson)

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Brooke Thompson who nominated, her son Michael of Hillsborough, who is in fourth grade.

How do you know the star local student?

My child

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Michael excels at Hillsborough Elementary School, where he won the fairness award, recognized by the Principal and the entire school. He volunteered during the holidays to help package food to send to unfortunate people in the Philippines. He receives praise from his teacher, where he is always helping her and the students who need more support in the classroom (her words). He created, organized and led a pet supplies drive for the school, for a local pet charity. Michael plays 3 sports for the Hillsborough Rec teams and demonstrates his leadership, motivation, and camaraderie not only amongst his teammates but for both the older and younger players. His passion for caring for animals, his classmates, community, and teammates shines through.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

This shining star cares for his classmates, community, teammates, animals and those less fortunate.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Michael!
