Adopt A Pet Fee-Free At Hudson County-Based Shelter This Weekend
It's a fee-free animal adoption weekend at the Liberty Humane Society this weekend from Friday through Sunday, they said.

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Liberty Humane Society and Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization working to save the lives of cats and dogs in America’s shelters by 2025, are teaming up for an adoption campaign to encourage people to choose to adopt, not buy, their next pet.
Liberty Humane is based in Jersey City and also serves Hoboken.
All adoption fees will be waived for shelter pets who meet the age and weight criteria: dogs over 40 pounds and cats over six months of age. People must submit their application by Sunday, Sept. 18 at noon.

“This is another great opportunity for dogs and cats in our shelter to find their forever home,” said Irene Borngraeber, Executive Director of Liberty Humane Society. “Older cats and big dogs (over 40 pounds) tend to stick around the shelter longer than kittens and puppies, but they make wonderful additions to families of all types and sizes."
She added, "This adoption event allows us to highlight these deserving shelter pets and help them find their forever home without a cost barrier to adopters.”

Applications are now being accepted on the organization’s website and the public is encouraged to apply as soon as possible to take part in the event.
Recent data released by Best Friends showed that U.S. shelters were seeing an increase in animal intakes and a decrease in pet adoptions from shelters. This has steadily turned into a crisis in the animal welfare community, where many shelters are over capacity.
