City to Look for Construction Firm to Renovate Church Square Park
The city council unanimously approved a resolution to move forward on Wednesday night.

All nine members of the city council approved of Church Square Park on Wednesday night.
The plan will cost between $600,000 and $650,000, said Director of Health and Human Services Leo Pellegrini. The money will come out of a $1.6 million parks improvement bond that was awarded last year.
Pellegrini couldn't be precise about the timing of the completion of the first phase of the renovations. He said, however, that he hopes to start some construction in the Fall.

The new plan, said Councilwoman Jennifer Giattino—in whose ward the park is located—will provide "a much greener and a much more open Church Square Park."
With the approval of Wednesday's resolution, the city will now go out to bid with the goal of hiring a construction firm to do the work.

The first phase includes two play ground areas in the South East quadrant of the park, renovations to the basketball courts and renovations to the bathrooms.
The basketball courts will be resurfuced, said Pellegrini.
Among other things, ping pong tables will be added to the asphalt squares at the park and some bike racks are being added.
In April, the city approved a contract to renovate multiple playgrounds in town, including Church Square Park.
The first phase of renovations to the park was completed after multiple public meetings at the park and at the Library.
