Clear The Shelters In Hudson County: Special Needs Dog Seeks Home

Usain Bolt, a special needs dog, and Moet, a cat saved from a hoarder, are two of the pets seeking a new home at the Liberty Humane Society.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A Hudson County nonprofit animal shelter will be among those participating in the 2019 “Clear the Shelters” event.

The Liberty Humane Society, which serves Hoboken and Jersey City, will take part in this year’s campaign. Liberty Humane is the only participating shelter in Hudson County for 2019. See other locations in New Jersey.

During “Clear the Shelters,” Liberty Humane will waive its pet adoption fees for cats older than four months and dogs weighing more than 40 pounds. See some of LHS’ adoptable animals.

Animals available for adoption include Usain Bolt, a 7-year-old mixed breed dog who has a neurological issue impacting his balance and use of his hind legs. He is one of the most affectionate and happy dogs in the shelter, even with kids and strangers, shelter staff said. For more information, photos, and videos of Usain Bolt, see his profile on PetFinder.

Another available animal is Moet, who came to LHS with 15 other cats from a hoarding situation in Jersey City. When she got to the shelter, Moet was sick and had an infection, but she’s now “healthy, talkative and in love with her banana toy.” For more information, photos and video of Moet see her profile on PetFinder.
