HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken's hospital held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for the newly renamed Hemant Shah and Ami Shah Auditorium and Community Center, a room that helps with family and community needs, such as a support group for new mothers.

The ceremony and renaming were in recognition of "the outstanding contributions of Dr. Hemant Shah, a distinguished family practice physician and philanthropist whose dedication to the Hoboken community and beyond also earned him a proclamation from the City of Hoboken," said CarePoint Health in a press release. "Dr. Shah has shown a profound commitment to public service."

Shah serves as an attending physician at CarePoint Health System's Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital.

The room is in use already for community needs that include pre-natal classes for expectant mothers, the New Mothers Supprort Group which meets weekly, American Red Cross blood drive events, the Good Dog Foundation events, and many more that serve Hudson County’s residents.

"Once you've made it in your career and you have done what you want to accomplish, giving back is such a simple way to pay it foward to future generations," said Dr. Shah of his motivation to modernize the community room. "I hope to inspire my children, who are here with me today, and others to do the same because when we help each other we heal the world."

CarePoint said that Shah has served as the health commissioner of the city of Jersey City and has held numerous leadership and board positions across hospitals in Hudson County.

President and CEO of CarePoint Health Achintya Moulick said, "Dr. Shah's enduring legacy and the profound impact he has made on our community and the world are truly commendable. The idea to provide funding to make this a newly modernized space came from Dr. Shah himself and CarePoint is grateful for his proactive kindness. It is our privilege to honor him with the dedication of this community center."

Shah, who immigrated from India, has supported a wide range of charitable causes locally and globally. His philanthropic efforts include temple restorations and the establishment of a non-profit school in India.
