Former Newark Principal Joins Hoboken District

Gerald Fitzhugh II was appointed on Tuesday to be the new principal of the Connors School.

The Hoboken Board of Education on Tuesday night appointed Gerald Fitzhugh II as the new principal of the Connors Elementary School. 

Fitzhugh’s contract—which started on Wednesday and runs until June 30, 2013—includes a $127,209 salary.

Fitzhugh comes to the district from Newark, where he served as a vice principal and a principal.

The new principal will be responsible for “developing and sustaining an interactive and authentic learning environment,” according to an announcement from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Toback.

Between 2000 and 2005, Fitzhugh served as a fourth and fifth grade teacher  at the Dr. William Horton Elementary School. From 2005 to 2009 he was the vice principal there.

In July 2010, Fitzhugh became the principal of the

Chancellor Avenue/Annex Elementary School was able to achieve Adequate Yearly Progress in elementary and middle school mathematics and language arts/literacy for the 2011-2012 school year, according to Toback’s announcement. Furthermore, the daily attendance rates increased from 55 to more than 90 percent during the two years he served as the school’s principal.
