Go Green: Learn How to Install Rain Barrels at City Workshop

The City of Hoboken Green Team will be holding its third annual Rain Barrel Installation Training and Giveaway on Sept. 18.

The City of Hoboken Green Team will be hosting its third Rain Barrel Installation Training and Giveaway on Thursday, September 18, 2014. The Green Team will be giving away free rain barrels to pre-registered participants. All participants must be City of Hoboken residents or business owners.

The intent of the workshop, which will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall, is to reduce chronic flooding in the City of Hoboken at the residential level. Every gallon of water diverted from Hoboken’s sewer system through green roofs, rain barrels, street trees, rain gardens, porous pavers, and other green infrastructure helps reduce flooding.

Anyone interested in participating in this workshop should check their property for available downspouts, as rain barrels are intended to collect rooftop storm water runoff. These rain barrels should not be used as stand-alone features in an open yard or a roof deck.
