Hearing Fireworks In Hoboken, Jersey City, Or NYC? Here's Why

NORTH JERSEY, NJ — If you've been hearing scattered fireworks Monday night in the Hoboken/Jersey City area, you're not imagining it.

Monday was the first night of Diwali, the Indian festival of lights. Jersey City Public Schools were closed for the day.

Those celebrating the holiday sometimes light fireworks, as they did in an impromptu display in the Little India section of Jersey City in past years.

On Monday, several posts on social media showed celebrations in Little India Monday night.

No official fireworks celebrations were scheduled in Manhattan on Monday, according to the city of New York.
