Here Are 5 New Restaurants That Opened In North Jersey Last Month

NORTH JERSEY — As summer meanders to a close, diners can take their "last licks" of outdoor eating and try the new restaurants that opened in North Jersey in and around August.

Restaurants that opened recently are serving up fresh salads, Mexican favorites, and Dubai chocolate desserts.

Sweetgreen

At its newest location a few blocks from the Hoboken train station, the Sweetgreen brand serves up salads, warm bowls, protein plates, and sides. Meals include the Harvest Bowl, Crispy Rice Bowl, Caramelized Garlic Steak, and Miso Glazed Salmon. Sweetgreen offers dozens of ingredients to choose from, including portobello mushrooms and Nori sesame seasoning. Union Bar & Provisions

A new two-story tavern opened on Aug. 8 near the Rutherford train station. Owners say it was built "to bring families, friends, and neighbors together over classic food and drinks." Union Bar & Provisions is the first newly built, standalone restaurant in downtown East Rutherford in several years, a spokesperson said. Signature dishes include a fresh lobster roll, steak frites, and seasonal chef-driven specials. They also serve cocktails, beer, and wine. Find out more here.

Bacarosa

Bacarosa opened in late August in Nutley. It replaced the recently closed Hudson Rose, which had replaced Franklin Steakhouse. The restaurant’s menu features dishes like king salmon crude, steak tartare, octopus carpaccio, artisan pizzas, pastas, and wood grilled prawns. The address is 238 Franklin Ave. Find out more here.

Caroline's Tavern

Heading a little closer to Central Jersey — if you believe there is such a thing — Caroline's Tavern opened on Aug. 25. It's attached to the Avenel Performing Arts Center and replaces e Curtains Bar and Restaurant. "We are a very community forward, casual, fun environment," executive chef and co-owner Peter Botros was quoted as saying in Patch. "Very approachable menu, things like burgers, wings but also some entrees like pork chops and steaks. Really, really fun deserts, really fun drinks." Find out more here.

Haraz Coffee House

This chain of Yemeni coffee and bake shops just opened an 1,800-square-foot location on a Hoboken corner near the city's train station, with late hours and lots of room to work. The chain offers unique coffee and tea options, as well as an extensive menu of breads and desserts, like the berry tres leches cake below. Watch for a separate story on the new establishment soon.
